This workshop is designed for non‑EU/EFTA doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers who wish to better understand their legal status and career options in Switzerland after completing their academic position.
It will provide detailed information on:
- The legal status of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers (student vs. employee);
- The conditions required to obtain a work permit in Switzerland (including quota considerations);
- Key aspects related to unemployment benefits, including the concept of “aptitude au placement”.
Objectives
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
- Gain a clear understanding of their immigration status in Switzerland and its implications for their professional future;
- Be equipped to plan their next career steps with greater confidence;
- Become familiar with the Swiss federal legal framework governing migration, as well as the specific practices of the Canton of Neuchâtel;
- Understand in detail the requirements and procedures for obtaining a work permit.
- Understand the conditions under which you may be eligible for unemployment benefits;
- Navigate the administrative steps required to secure your legal and professional situation.
