The Swiss Association for Gender Studies' research network on Globalization, Race and Alterity within and beyond the University (GRAU) is organizing this panel discussion. GRAU invites panellists to discuss how critical feminists scholarship can help us address the relationship between academic freedom in "western(ized)" universities across the globe and the violence of our present momnet. As we are in the midst of what can be termed a (neo)liberal-democratic backsliding, how can we (re)assert higher education as a viable vehicle through which to speak truth to power?
