In late 2024, Louis-Hadrien Robert and I (as the Robert Turner Collective) were commissioned to create a piece for the exhibition SHAPES at EPFL Pavilions. The brief was simple: create an artwork which reflects some aspect of the mathematical work of Maryna Viazovska. In this talk, I will present the installation we made and discuss some of the questions that arose as we set out to reconcile artistic expression and mathematical communication. Time permitting, I will also present a technique from our artistic toolkit, algorithmic abstraction, that uses the singular value decomposition of a matrix.
