Le 17 mars 2026, le Fonds national suisse a annoncé une réforme importante de ses instruments de carrière, élaborée en concertation avec les hautes écoles et la relève scientifique. Un nouvel instrument d’encouragement au niveau postdoctoral sera lancé début 2028, en remplacement d’Ambizione et de Postdoc.Mobility, afin de mieux refléter les parcours scientifiques actuels et d’offrir un soutien plus cohérent.

Ce nouvel instrument s’adresse aux chercheuses et chercheurs du niveau de carrière R2 (« recognised researcher »). L’éligibilité ne reposera plus sur des fenêtres temporelles strictes, mais sur les accomplissements et la capacité démontrée à diriger un projet de recherche indépendant. Les collaborations nationales et internationales seront encouragées, avec la possibilité de séjours longs ou répétés à l’étranger. Les bénéficiaires seront salariés pendant toute la durée du subside – y compris durant leur mobilité – leur garantissant ainsi l’accès aux prestations sociales, ce qui n’était pas le cas avec les bourses.

La dernière mise au concours Ambizione aura lieu en novembre 2026, et celle de Postdoc.Mobility en août 2027. Le FNS communiquera d’ici la fin de l’année les détails relatifs aux critères d’admission, à l’évaluation, aux conditions de financement et à la transition.

On 17 March 2026, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) has announced an important reform of its career funding portfolio, following extensive consultations with higher education institutions and early‑career researchers. A new postdoctoral funding scheme will be launched in early 2028, replacing both Ambizione and Postdoc.Mobility, with the aim of offering more coherent support aligned with today’s research career paths.

This new scheme is designed for researchers at the R2 career level (“recognised researcher”). Instead of relying on fixed time‑based eligibility windows, selection will focus on applicants’ achievements and readiness to lead an independent research project. National and international collaborations will be encouraged, with the possibility of extended or repeated research stays abroad. Importantly, grantees will be employed for the entire duration of their project—including during mobility periods—ensuring access to social benefits previously unavailable under fellowship-based models.

The final Ambizione call will close in November 2026, and the final Postdoc.Mobility call in August 2027. Details on transitional measures, eligibility, evaluation processes, and funding conditions will be communicated by the SNSF later this year.
