Le 20 juillet 2026, la Commission Européenne a adopté le Work Programme 2027 du European Research Council (ERC), qui définit les opportunités de financement, les budgets alloués aux subventions, le calendrier des appels à projets et les règles de candidature pour l’année à venir.

Élaboré par le Conseil scientifique de l’ERC, le Work Programme 2027 apporte quelques modifications aux régimes de subventions et aux règles de candidature de l’ERC, qui avaient déjà été annoncées plus tôt en 2026 afin de laisser aux chercheurs le temps de se préparer. Voici les principales modifications :

Période elargie d’éligibilité pour les subventions Starting Grant et Consolidator Grant :

• Pour être éligible à une subvention Starting Grant de l’ERC dans le cadre de l’appel à propositions de 2027, le/la candidat-e doit avoir soutenu sa thèse de doctorat au plus tard 10 ans avant le 1er janvier 2027.
• Pour une subvention Consolidator Grant dans le cadre de l’appel à projets de 2027, la soutenance de thèse doit avoir eu lieu entre 5 et 15 ans avant le 1er janvier 2027.

Nouvelles restrictions relatives aux candidatures :

• Les chercheurs ne pourront se voir attribuer au maximum qu’une subvention Starting Grant et une subvention Consolidator Grant au cours de leur carrière ; ainsi, toute personne ayant déjà bénéficié d’une subvention Starting Grantou Consolidator Grant ne pourra pas postuler une seconde fois au même programme de financent.
• Les candidat-e-s ne peuvent avoir qu’une seule requête en cours d’évaluation à un moment donné (à l’exception des appels à projets Proof of Concept).
• Les candidat-e-s ne seront autorisé-e-s à soumettre qu’une seule requête dans le cadre du programme de travail 2027 du ERC. Ils pourront soumettre une autre proposition si la première a été déclarée inéligible.
• Les candidat-e-s ayant soumis des requêtes éligibles pour les subventions Advanced Grant 2026 et Plus Grant 2026 ne peuvent pas postuler à la subvention Synergy Grant 2027.
• Pour les subventions Synergy Grant, tous les chercheurs principaux (PI) doivent rester éligibles tout au long du processus d’évaluation ; dans le cas contraire, la requête sera déclarée inéligible.

On 20 July 2026, the European Commission has adopted the European Research Council (ERC) Work Programme 2027, setting out the funding opportunities, grant budgets, competition timetable and application rules for the coming year.

Established by the ERC Scientific Council, the Work Programme 2027 introduces a few changes to the ERC's grant schemes and application rules that were already announced earlier in 2026 to give researchers time to prepare. These are the key changes:

Broader eligibility windows for Starting and Consolidator Grants:

• To be eligible for an ERC Starting Grant in the 2027 call for proposals, the applicant must have defended their PhD no more than 10 years before 1 January 2027.
• For a Consolidator Grant in the 2027 call, the thesis defence must have been between 5 and 15 years before 1 January 2027.

New application restrictions:

• Researchers will be awarded at most one Starting Grant and one Consolidator Grant during their career, i.e. anyone who has held either a Starting or Consolidator Grant in the past may not apply to the same grant scheme a second time.
• Applicants may have only one proposal under evaluation at any given time (except for the Proof of Concept Grant calls).
• Applicants will be allowed to submit only one proposal under the ERC Work Programme 2027. They may submit another proposal if the first submission has been declared ineligible.
• Applicants who have submitted eligible proposals for the Advanced and Plus Grant 2026 may not apply to Synergy Grant 2027.
• For Synergy Grants, all principal investigators (PIs) must remain eligible throughout the evaluation process; otherwise, the proposal will be declared ineligible.
