La Commission Européenne vient d'adopter le ERC Work Programme 2026 qui définit les conditions, les règles d'éligibilité et les délais pour les subventions du Conseil Européen de la Recherche (ERC), avec un budget total de 2,7 milliards d'euros. Par la suite, les deux premiers bourses 2026 ont été mises au concours: ERC Starting Grant (ERC-2026-StG) le 9 juillet 2025 et ERC Synergy Grant (ERC-2026-SyG) le 10 juillet 2025.

Voici les éléments principaux de ces appels à projet :

ERC Starting Grant : 

Chercheurs ciblés : Excellents Principal Investigators (PI) qui démarrent ou ont récemment démarré leur propre groupe ou programme de recherche indépendant et qui ont déjà montré des preuves du potentiel d'indépendance en matière de recherche (p.ex. ≥1 publication importante en tant que premier auteur, publication sans participation du directeur de thèse)

Eligibilité : Chercheurs ayant soutenu leur doctorat il y a > 2 et ≤ 7 ans au 1er janvier 2026 (fenêtre : 1.1.2019 – 31.12.2023)

Délai de soumission : 14 octobre 2025

Budget et durée : jusqu'à 1'500'000 EUR pour une période de 5 ans. Financement supplémentaire jusqu'à EUR 1'000'000*.

*sauf pour les PI qui s'installent dans l'UE ou dans un pays associé en provenance d'un autre pays, auquel cas le financement supplémentaire maximal est de 2'000’000 EUR.

ERC Syngergy Grant :

Chercheurs ciblés : Petit groupe de deux à quatre Principal Investigators innovants et actifs s'attaquant conjointement à des problèmes de recherche ambitieux qui ne peuvent être résolus par un seul PI et son équipe.

Éligibilité : Chercheurs principaux de toute ancienneté professionnelle (pas de fenêtre de temps définie après l'obtention du doctorat) et avec un dossier compétitif correspondant à leur stade de carrière.

Délai de soumission : 5 novembre 2025

Budget et durée : jusqu'à 10'00'000 EUR pour une période de 6 ans. Financement supplémentaire jusqu'à 4'000'000 EUR.

The European Commission has adopted the ERC Work Programme 2026. It was published on 9 July and sets out the conditions, eligibility rules, and deadlines for European Research Council (ERC) grants, with a total budget of €2.7 billion. These are the main call features:

ERC Starting Grant:

Targeted researchers: Excellent Principal Investigators who are starting or have recently started their own independent research team or programme and have already shown evidence of the potential for research independence (e.g. ≥1 important publication as main author, publication without participation of PhD supervisor)

Eligibility: Researchers who have defended their PhD > 2 and ≤ 7 years ago on 1st January 2026 (window: 1.1.2019 – 31.12.2023)

Submission deadline: 14 October 2025

Budget and Duration: up to EUR 1’500’000 for a period of 5 years. Additional funding of up to EUR 1’000’000*.

*except for Principal Investigators re-locating to the EU or an Associated Country from elsewhere, in which case the maximum additional funding is EUR 2’000’000.

ERC Syngergy Grant:

Targeted researchers: Small group of two to four innovative and active Principal Investigators jointly addressing ambitious research problems that cannot be tackled by any single PI and their team alone.

Eligibility: Principal Investigators of any professional seniority (no defined time window after obtaining PhD degree) and with a competitive track record matching their career stage.

Submission deadline: 5 November 2025

Budget and Duration: up to EUR 10’00’000 for a period of 6 years. Additional funding of up to EUR 4’000’000.
