Bachelor’s and Master’s students who have part of / their entire curriculum in English; doctoral students with a B1+/B2 level of English. The course aims to help learners become more comfortable using English in an academic setting.
There are no special entry requirements except for the students’ level of English. The course is aimed at students whose proficiency level is at least B1 (intermediate).
You will be asked to come to the EMA before the beginning of the semester to take a "Placement Test".
At the end of the course, students will find it easier to:
- take notes in English;
- take part in seminars and other courses in English;
- do a short presentation on a given subject;
- write a short summary;
- use a broader range of grammatical structures and general and academic vocabulary;
- use a learners' dictionary and other such tools to develop their academic vocabulary.
Each session provides practice on the four language areas i.e. speaking, writing, listening and reading, with a particular emphasis on the skills needed to function effectively in an academic setting.
To be awarded 3 ECTS credits for the course, students have to complete a written assignment, do a short presentation and obtain a grade of at least 4 in the end-of-course test. The Language Centre cannot guarantee the recognition of the 3 ECTS credits by the student’s own Faculty or programme of study.
The course material is going to be made available on Moodle.
