Getting around Neuchâtel

Roue de vélo

The city of Neuchâtel is easily accessible by car or train. Although the UniNE campus has different sites across the city, the buildings are easy to access on foot or by public transport.

By bike

UniNE students can take advantage of a special offer from Donkey Republic (bike hire). All railway stations offer bike parking, and the largest even have secure bike-stations. Bikes can also be hired from over one hundred Swiss railway stations.

By public transport

A combination of buses, trains and postbuses serve the communes along Lake Neuchâtel’s shoreline, linking the city to the rest of the canton. Various ticketing options and season tickets exist, such as the Onde verte, which covers the whole canton and beyond.

By train

The Swiss rail service (CFF) offer various travel cards, such as the Demi-tarif (which reduces ticket costs by 50%) and the Voie 7 (free travel after 7pm). For regular long-distance travel, a day pass is often better value than a ticket. Communes make a limited number of CFF day passes available to their inhabitants at a reduced cost.

By car

Mobility’s Car Sharing programme is a great alternative if you do not own your own vehicle: Mobility is established across Switzerland, and works in close collaboration with the CFF. See also the other opportunities for car sharing.

By plane

At the University of Neuchâtel, a sustainability contribution is deducted for all flights paid for by the university.
