My research is focused on the use of environmental tracers in alluvial aquifer systems. Traditional methods to interpret measured tracer concentrations often rely on simplified approaches (e.g. assuming homogenous aquifer properties, simplified geometries, uniform tracer inputs, …), which are unable to capture the complexity of dynamic natural systems. Though still very much an open question, it is expected that the information content of tracers can be much better exploited through their explicit simulation in physically based numerical models.


The aim of this project is to explore in which circumstances and to what extent the explicit simulation of some environmental tracers (e.g. 222Rn, 37Ar, stable noble gases) can inform numerical models, and better help constrain the properties of alluvial systems.
