Scientific interests

 

I am really interested by many different topics in microbiology. Nevertheless, my main interest concerns bacterial ecological strategies and more precisely, the bacterial sporulation. The sporulation allows bacteria to form dormant and resistant structures called spores. These spores could stay in environment for extended periods and thus, represents a survival strategy. This process is well described in some bacterial phyla, but poorly understood in other. Therefore, I would like to investigate sporulation in new bacterial models for two main reasons.

First, because sporulation allows a long survival in environment and therefore, we could imagine using spores in order to discover some facts about the past! Secondly, I am convinced that an extended knowledge of sporulation could help in the field of human health. In fact, it is now commonly admit that sporulating bacteria are highly connected to humans; either in a positive way as part of the diversity of our microbiome or in a negative way, as spores are responsible of many diseases.

As a summary, even if I really like applied microbiology, I also think that, sometimes, fundamental researches are needed and represent the first step, before moving forward.
