Piergiuseppe Fortunato works at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), where he leads projects on industrial policy, global value chains and economic integration. He is also adjunct professor at the University of Neuchâtel. He has worked at the United Nations offices in New York and Geneva, as well as for several universities and research institutes (University of Bologna, University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, etc.). He has published numerous articles in leading academic journals, such as The Economic Journal, The Journal of Economic Growth and The Journal of Population Economics, and contributes regularly to several newspapers and media outlets. He has worked with the governments of several countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America and is actively involved in the dialogue on global governance in various international forums (OECD, WTO, etc.).
