Born in the canton of St. Gallen in 1967, Giuseppe Melfi earned his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Pisa in 1997. He subsequently held a postdoctoral position at the University of Lausanne from 1997 to 2000, before continuing his academic career at the University of Neuchâtel. He was invited as a visiting professor at the University of Trieste in 2005 and at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne in 2009.
His research has focused primarily on number theory, a field in which he has collaborated extensively with leading specialists from around the world.
