Institutes and Research

The Faculty of Science is home to seven institutes, each with laboratories and chairs specializing in specific areas of research. These institutes, veritable pillars of the academic ecosystem, regularly organize colloquia and seminars, while providing cutting-edge teaching in their respective fields. Strongly committed to training doctoral students, they are also involved in national and international research projects, often across disciplines. Institute of Biology

With over 10 laboratories, Biology is one of the largest institutes at the University of Neuchâtel. Teaching covers all levels of life, from the molecule to the ecosystem, with an emphasis on the interactions between organisms and their environment.

Institute of Chemistry

The Institute brings together three research laboratories focusing on environmental chemistry, bioanalytical chemistry and organometallic chemistry. It also teaches chemistry in several of the Faculty’s Bachelor’s and Master’s courses.

Institute of Computer Science

The three Chairs cover a wide field – complex and distributed systems, data science, machine learning – offering high-level training and numerous interdisciplinary projects with other institutes and faculties.

Center for Hydrogeology and Geothermics

A world-class research center in hydrogeology and geothermal energy, its aim is to improve knowledge and sustainable management of underground water and energy resources, while offering unique specialized training courses.

Institute of Mathematics

The Institut of Mathematics, with its five research chairs, offers an inspiring academic framework that encourages innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration in many areas of mathematics.

Institute of Physics

As part of the Time-Frequency Laboratory (LTF), the Institute of Physics explores and pushes back the frontiers in the fields of time measurement, optical metrology and ultrafast technologies and sciences.

Institute of work and organizational psychology

Unique in Romandie, the IPTO has been focusing its research and teaching for over 40 years on the psychology of work, organizations and personnel, with a particular emphasis on social interactions and health at work.
