Swiss Association of Migration and Mobility Studies (SAMMS)

Interested in research on migration and mobility?

The Swiss Association of Migration and Mobility Studies (SAMMS) is open to all individuals and institutions with a strong interest in academic research on migration and mobility studies (with a link to Switzerland).

The 1st General Assembly of the SAMMS was held on 13 January 2026 to

    • Discuss and adopt the Statutes
    • Elect the board
    • Provide information and discussion on activities, such as the annual conference.

The launch was followed with a Public Lecture by Peggy Levitt, Wellesley College and the Global (De)Centre.

SAMMS promotes academic research, critical reflection, and public dialogue on migration and mobility in Switzerland and beyond.

SAMMS will:

  • Connect researchers working on migration and mobility,
  • Promote early-career development,
  • Facilitate the exchange of knowledge and methodologies across disciplines,
  • Support transdisciplinary exchange outside of academia, and
  • Disseminate research findings and news.

SAMMS is funded by membership fees (determined by the General Assembly), public and private grants, donations and sponsorships, and revenue from events.

More information on the SAMMS available soon!
