Arriving in Neuchâtel

On the first day of the programme (or the week before, if you are already in Neuchâtel), please go to the Registration Office (Service Immatriculation et Mobilité – SIM) to get your student card.

  • Accommodation
  • Healthcare

Health insurance is mandatory in Switzerland. There are two options:

    • Insure yourself in your home country, if applicable. (EU residents are insured in their home countries).

    Download the relevant form.
    Check with your healthcare insurance.

    • Buy insurance as soon as you arrive at the University of Neuchâtel.

For assistance, go to the Student Services Office.
    Address: Av. du 1er-Mars 26, 2000 Neuchâtel

See here for more information (in French).

  • Immigration
    • Information on residence permits and study visas.
    • Non-European Community/AELE residents will be asked to pay a deposit of CHF 18,000.00 to a Swiss bank account, at any bank located in Switzerland.
    • Should the Service des migrations (Neuchâtel's immigration service) decline to grant you a residence/student permit, you will not be enrolled at the University of Neuchâtel.
  • Late arrivals

In case of a delay in acquiring a visa, we recommend that you start the programme in the following semester. Late arrival may seriously impact your chance of succeeding in the programme.
