Students who would like to become more confident in using English for study purposes and outside the classroom.

The course is aimed at students whose proficiency level is around B2+.

You will be asked to come to the EMA before the beginning of the semester to take a Placement Test.

The course will allow students to :

• use a range of vocabulary and grammatical structures at advanced level
• express their views on a variety of topics
• familiarise themselves with different types of text and different sets of writing conventions
• manage complex reading and listening tasks

Each session will cover a different topic and students will work individually, in pairs or take part in whole-class activities. Key grammar points will be refreshed. Speaking practice will include providing personal information and discussing topics of personal and academic / scientific interest at an advanced level.

To receive a course certificate, students are expected to:

• attend regularly (no more than three absences per semester)
• pass the end-of-semester test

The course material will be distributed in class. Students will be required to contribute CHF 10.- towards the cost of photocopying.
