Dr. Valon Hasanaj is a Quantitative Researcher at the Swiss Forum for Migration and Population Studies (SFM), University of Neuchâtel, where he is actively involved in two projects: the Weave Project, which focuses on experimental research on EU mobile workers’ access to unemployment benefits, and the NCCR collaborative project on migration reception context and EU mobile workers. He also lectures at the University of Bern, where, over the last five years, he has designed and taught five courses on topics related to political economy and supervised more than 20 bachelor theses. In addition, he is currently mentoring a PhD candidate.
Dr. Hasanaj completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Isabelle Stadelmann-Steffen (University of Bern) and Prof. Dr. Vally Koubi (ETH Zürich), with research on the intersections of poverty, inequality, and climate change. He is currently co-authoring a book for Oxford University Press (expected 2026) and is the recipient of the 2024 Cambridge University Press Award for Excellence in Social Policy. A Fulbright awardee, Dr. Hasanaj brings additional expertise as a former central bank economist and EU project consultant. As of 2025, as an AI enthusiast, he is also an early investor and contributor to four startups and protocols.
