ORCID

A Valuable Asset for the UniNE Community

Benefiting researchers across all disciplines and career stages, your ORCID identifier belongs to you and will accompany you throughout your professional journey. Quick and easy to use, ORCID has rapidly become an internationally recognized tool adopted by publishers and universities worldwide. To date, it counts 683 member organizations.

Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier

ORCID stands for “Open Researcher and Contributor ID.” This alphanumeric code automatically establishes links between an author and their professional activities across all fields, ensuring proper attribution and recognition of their work.

Launched in October 2012, this platform has already recorded over 18 million works contributed by more than 3 million registered users. Supported by a global research community, this non-profit organization maintains a registry of unique identifiers while employing a transparent approach to linking research activities and outcomes to these identifiers.

Addressing Ambiguity in Scientific Attribution

Researchers sometimes face challenges in gaining proper recognition, especially when multiple individuals share the same or similar names. In many cases, this makes it difficult to reliably identify the author of a published article. ORCID addresses this issue by assigning each researcher a permanent, unique identifier.
