Valérie Wyssbrod

Valérie Wyssbrod is a lecturer at the University of Neuchâtel. She teaches “Introduction to the Law of Biodiversity Conservation” “Biodiversity conservation in context (workshops/excursions)”, “Effective communication for biodiversity conservation” for master students in biodiversity conservation and law students. She currently works on different topics in international and Swiss environmental law. Her main research interests lie in the fields of environmental law, law of the sea, biotechnology law, international governance and public international law. Valérie is the winner of the Nexans award 2020 for excellence in research.

Previously, Valérie has held numerous positions at several universities. She taught “Introduction technique au droit” and supervised Bachelor of Law students for their first written assignment at the University of Fribourg (2023-2024). She taught the course “Droit de la propriété intellectuelle” at  the School of Law in Lausanne University (2022-2023). Valérie was part of the teaching group “Service learning”(2022), she was responsible for the “séminaire intensif” (2020) and the “Biotechnologies et environnement juridique des sciences de la vie “ class at Neuchâtel University. She was also a Visiting Fellow at the Chair of Public International Law at the Faculty of Law, Criminal Justice and Public Administration of the University of Lausanne(2020-2021). Valérie worked as a Postdoc researcher at the Stockholm Environmental Law and Policy Centre at Stockholm University in Sweden (2018-2019) on her own project on protected areas and sustainable development with the support of the SNF (Early PostdocMobility). She has a PhD in Law (summa cum laude 2017) from the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland (Thesis subject: Marine genetic resources from areas beyond national jurisdictions). She was a researcher at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada (2014), and at the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in the United Kingdom (2014-2015) with a fellowship from the SNF (DocMobility). She also worked as a teaching and research assistant at the Centre for Innovation Law and at the Health Law Institute of the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland (2010-2015). Valérie made her studies in Neuchâtel in Switzerland, Heidelberg in Germany and Newcastle in Australia and has obtained two masters, one MA in Law (2009) and one MA in Social Sciences (Journalism and Communication/ Sociology/ Psychology) (2005).
