Mentoring program

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is a personalized support system that fosters professional development and career preparation. Distinct from academic supervision, it encourages strategic reflection, strengthens transferable skills, and opens perspectives beyond academia.

In an impartial and supportive setting, mentors provide a space for dialogue to help postdocs showcase their strengths, expand their network, and anticipate the challenges of career transition.

The mentoring program is designed for those who wish to:

  • Expand their professional network, within or beyond academia
  • Develop specific skills to achieve their career goals
  • Explore and strengthen career options
  • Gain a better understanding of transferable skills required in different career paths
  • Exchange with highly qualified professionals about aspirations and the steps needed to achieve them
  • Learn how to position and promote their profile in both academic and non-academic job markets

The program is open to all UniNE postdocs, regardless of discipline or career stage.

Participation in the program involves the following commitments:

  • A one-year engagement
  • Active and regular participation in meetings with the mentor (minimum of 4 meetings per year)
  • Preparation ahead of sessions (defining objectives, preparing questions, following up on agreed actions)
  • A proactive, open, and reflective attitude
  • Signing a mentoring agreement at the start of the program between the mentee, the mentor, and the Graduate Campus, specifying key objectives, meeting frequency, and mutual expectations
  • Respectful and professional communication between mentee and mentor
  • Writing and submitting a mentoring report at the end of the program, describing the extent to which objectives were met and lessons learned

Repeated failure to meet these commitments may result in termination of the mentoring relationship.
