Dr Khamsy is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Neuchâtel. Her work, based in anthropology and sociology, focuses on the intersection of digital technologies and migration. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the NCCR – on the move, where she works on the project ‘The Agency of Forced Migrants and Solidarity Activists’. Her research examines the conditions of Ukrainian migrants holding temporary protection permits in Switzerland and their embedding in local, transnational, and digital social networks.

Dr Khamsy completed her PhD at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology at the Geneva Graduate Institute. Her doctoral research, funded by a Swiss National Science Foundation Doc.CH grant, is based on multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork. It examines the role of smartphones, social media, and biometric technologies in the migration land journeys of refugees, primarily from Afghanistan, across Southeastern Europe. In addition to her postdoctoral position, she collaborates on ‘Afghan Europeans. The Invention of a Mobility Regime’, a French Research Agency-funded project based at the University of Lille.

Her work draws on Digital Anthropology and Sociology, Digital Migration Studies, Critical Migration and Border Studies, Science and Technology Studies, Media Studies, and Persian Studies. Her publications focus on migration in Europe and digital technologies, refugees’ liminality and precarity, and on the representations of migration in cinema. Dr Khamsy holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Geneva (2013), an MA in Near and Middle Eastern Studies from SOAS University of London (2015), and an MSc in Social Anthropology from the University of Oxford (2018).

Dre Khamsy est chercheuse postdoctorale à l’Institut de sociologie de l’Université de Neuchâtel. Son travail basé en anthropologie et en sociologie, se concentre sur l’intersection entre les technologies numériques et la migration. Elle est actuellement postdoctorante au NCCR – on the move, dans le cadre du projet « The Agency of Forced Migrants and Solidarity Activists ». Sa recherche examine les conditions de vie de personnes et migrantes originaires d’Ukraine bénéficiant d’un permis de protection temporaire en Suisse, ainsi que leur inscription dans des réseaux sociaux locaux, transnationaux et numériques.

Dre Khamsy a obtenu son doctorat au Département d’anthropologie et de sociologie de l’Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement à Genève. Sa recherche doctorale, financée par une bourse Doc.CH du Fonds national suisse, s’appuie sur un travail ethnographique de terrain multisitué. Elle examine le rôle des smartphones, des réseaux sociaux et des technologies biométriques dans les parcours migratoires terrestres de personnes réfugiées, provenant principalement d’Afghanistan, à travers l’Europe du Sud-Est. Elle collabore également au sein du projet « Afghan Europeans. The Invention of a Mobility Regime », un projet de recherche de l’Agence nationale de la recherche basé à l’université de Lille.

Ses publications portent notamment sur la migration en Europe et les technologies numériques, la liminalité et la précarité des personnes réfugiées, ainsi que sur les représentations de la migration au cinéma. Dr Khamsy est titulaire d’un Bachelor en relations internationales de l’Université de Genève (2013), d’un Master en études sur le Proche et le Moyen-Orient de l’Université SOAS de Londres (2015) et d’un Master en anthropologie sociale de l’Université d’Oxford (2018).
