Projet NABO-Earthworms

Integration of earthworms as soil biological indicators in routine soil monitoring.

PIs: Beat Frey (WSL), Claire Le Bayon

GoalIn the proposed pilot project, we are developing the methodology for recording earthworm populations for practical soil monitoring. To efficiently implement the surveys, classical methods are compared with new molecular genetic methods for soil DNA. The earthworms are collected by using hand-sorting and identified morphologically. By comparing and adapting the methods, an efficient implementation within the NABObio routine program should be achieved. The integration of this important group of macrofauna will enable a more holistic view of the edaphon within the NABO framework in the future.
