Exchange students must take out accident insurance. The University of Neuchâtel (UniNE) does not insure students against accidents and accepts no responsibility in the event of an accident during an exchange semester.
Check with your home university or your health insurance provider whether you have insurance that covers you in the event of an accident during your exchange. If not, we strongly advise you to take out accident insurance, which guarantees that medical expenses will be covered in the event of an accident during your exchange in Switzerland.
Private liability insurance is not compulsory in Switzerland. However, it is strongly recommended.
You should be aware that if you cause damage to others or to other people’s property (for example, in the accommodation you rent during your exchange at UniNE), you will have to cover the cost of treatment or repairs, which could cost several thousand Swiss francs.
Therefore, check whether you have private liability insurance. Private liability insurance is often valid for all people living in the same household, so ask your parents or spouse.
Private liability insurance is not very expensive. To help you choose, consult comparison websites.
