Conferences and seminars

The main objective is to organise conferences on certain applications of mathematics. It is aimed not only at students at the Institute, but also at maths and science teachers and anyone else who is interested.

The seminar will take place on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in auditorium B103.

All are welcome!

Title : MCMC Methods for Parameter Estimation in ODE Systems for CAR-T Cell Cancer Therapy

Abstract :
In this seminar, we will present a project developed in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson in Basel, focusing on a real clinical case of CAR-T cell cancer therapy. We will show how mathematical modeling and Bayesian statistics can be applied to describe the dynamics of CAR-T cells in the human body. Using systems of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) combined with advanced Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) and Differential Evolution (DE) algorithms, we estimated key biological parameters from real patient data. The model was implemented and validated in Python, providing a quantitative framework to better understand treatment response and variability. Overall, this work demonstrates how mathematical algorithms can support medical innovation and decision-making in real-world healthcare applications.

A small aperitif will follow the seminar.
We look forward to seeing many of you there!

The Tuesday Conferences are lectures aimed at a general mathematical audience.

The conference take place on Tuesdays at 17:00 in auditorium B103.

Everyone is welcome!

Title: Median spaces

Abstract: A median space is a metric space such that for every 3 points there exists a unique point common to 3 geodesics between the 3 pairs of points. First examples are real trees and their products. We will see examples of median spaces in connection with group actions, as well as in connection with more applied questions.

Algebra and Geometry Seminar:

The seminar takes place every Thursday from 1pm to 2pm in room B217.

Visit the seminar page for full details.

Geometry seminar :

Spectral geometry in the clouds

The BENDZ Meeting will be held on November 27 and 28 at the Faculty of Science of the University of Neuchâtel.

This algebra and geometry meeting brings together the University of Basel, EPFL, the University of Neuchâtel, the University of Burgundy Europe (UBE, formerly the University of Dijon), and the University of Zurich.
