My master’s thesis is part of the Territorial Bee Observatory (OTA) program and is supervised by Alexandre Abei.
This work aims to study the influence of the structure and abundance of honey-producing trees and shrubs on the foraging performance of honeybees (Apis mellifera) in different types of forests in the canton of Neuchâtel.
To do this, I analyze LiDAR data and orthophotos to characterize the forest structure and the distribution of honey resources. This information is then correlated with ColEval monitoring carried out on five apiaries throughout the canton.
The ultimate goal of this project is to develop an innovative tool that will enable beekeepers to assess the availability and spatial distribution of floral resources in order to optimize the distribution of apiaries.
