Livia Tomás a rejoint l’Institut de géographie en février 2024 en tant que coordinatrice du Module III du Pôle de recherche national (PNR) « On the Move – Entre migration et mobilité ». Dans ce rôle, elle encourage la coopération et les échanges entre les cinq projets de recherche du module, qui portent plus généralement sur conséquences des crises sur les régimes de (im)mobilité. Parallèlement à son activité à l’Université de Neuchâtel, elle est chercheuse postdoctorale à la Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) en travail social, où elle mène des recherches sur les conditions de vie et de travail ainsi que sur les trajectoires de (im)mobilité des migrant·e·s employé·e·s dans l’hôtellerie et la restauration en Suisse. Cette recherche qualitative s’inscrit dans le cadre du projet interdisciplinaire et à méthodes mixtes « Evolving (Im)Mobility Regimes: Migrant Workers’ Entitlement and Precarization in Times of Crisis », qui fait également partie du PNR « On the Move ».

Elle a obtenu son doctorat en 2023 à l’Institut de sociologie de l’Université de Neuchâtel, où elle s’est particulièrement intéressée aux mobilités transnationales des retraité·e·s. Elle a ainsi participé à un projet de recherche à méthodes mixtes sur le vieillissement transnational, dirigé par Prof. Mihaela Nedelcu et Prof. Eric Crettaz, qui ont également supervisé sa thèse de doctorat. Dans le cadre de sa recherche doctorale, elle a eu l’opportunité d’effectuer un stage de recherche de cinq mois au Département d’anthropologie sociale et culturelle de l’Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).

Avant de rejoindre l’Université de Neuchâtel en 2019, elle a obtenu un master en sciences sociales à l’Université de Fribourg (programme : Sociétés Plurielles : Cultures, Politique et Religions), ainsi qu’un bachelor en sciences sociales à l’Université de Berne

Livia Tomás joined the Institute of Geography in February 2024 as the coordinator of Module III of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) “On the Move”. In this role, she fosters cooperation and exchanges between the module’s five research projects, which more broadly analyze the consequences of crises on (im)mobility regimes.

In addition to her work at the University of Neuchâtel, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) in social work, where she conducts research on the living and working conditions, as well as the (im)mobility trajectories of migrants employed in the hospitality and catering industry in Switzerland. This qualitative research is part of the interdisciplinary and mixed-methods project “Evolving (Im)Mobility Regimes: Migrant Workers’ Entitlement and Precarization in Times of Crisis” conducted in the framework of the NCCR “On the Move”.

She obtained her PhD in Sociology in 2023 from the University of Neuchâtel, where she focused on the transnational mobilities of older adults. In so doing, she participated in a mixed-methods research project on transnational aging, led by Prof. Mihaela Nedelcu and Prof. Eric Crettaz, who also supervised her doctoral thesis. During her doctoral research, she had the opportunity to complete a five-month fellowship at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB).

Before joining the University of Neuchâtel in 2019, she obtained a master’s degree in social sciences from the University of Fribourg (program: Culture, Politics and Religion in Pluralist Societies), as well as a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of Bern.
