Energy and infrastructure

The University’s facilities are spread in various buildings throughout the city, most of which belong to the State of Neuchâtel. These infrastructures have an impact on the environment, notably in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption. Heating is one of the major contributors to the University’s carbon footprint.

As part of its efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its infrastructure, UniNE is paying close attention to the energy consumption of its buildings. The environmental action plan for buildings defines the strategy to be followed in this area. The University’s Buildings, Environment and Safety Department (SBES) is responsible for implementing and monitoring these measures.

  • Monitoring the energy consumption of buildings (energo programme)
  • Measures to optimise facilities and improve efficiency (heating, lighting, ventilation, water, etc.)
  • Awareness-raising on good practices and daily energy-saving gestures
  • Purchase of local renewable electricity (mainly from hydropower) via the Viteos Areuse+ label
  • Support to the State’s efforts to install photovoltaic systems on building
  • Integration of environmental considerations into the planning of the new building (Univers)
