This course is intended for students whose curriculum is partly or entirely in English, as well as for doctoral students. It prepares participants to use English effectively in academic settings.

There are no specific entry requirements other than the student’s level of English. The course is intended for students with a proficiency level of at least B1+/low B2 (intermediate/upper-intermediate).

Before the start of the course, students will be required to take a “Placement Test” at the EMA .

The course will enable students to:

  • practise speaking and gain confidence in English-language class discussions;
  • deliver a short presentation in English;
  • write a brief academic text;
  • use a range of upper-intermediate grammar structures in both speech and writing;
  • expand on their academic vocabulary.

The course is structured into modules which offer integrated practice in grammar, speaking, reading, writing, and listening, all aligned with the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Each module is designed to build students’ confidence and competence in academic English through targeted in-class activities and skill-based exercises.

To receive a course certificate, students are expected to:

  • attend classes regularly (note that you may miss no more than three modules);
  • submit one written assignment;
  • deliver a short oral presentation;
  • pass the end-of-course test.

The course materials will be distributed in class and made available on Moodle.
