Le 1er février 2026, le FNS a mis au concours les bourses SNSF Starting Grants 2026, qui représentent le plus haut niveau d’encouragement de carrière du FNS et permettent aux chercheuses et chercheurs de mener leur projet et de diriger une équipe de recherche en Suisse. Pour la première fois, les demandes de subsides SNSF Starting Grant seront entièrement saisies sur le FNS Portal et non plus via mySNF.

Voici les éléments clés pour l’appel à projets 2026 :

Délai de soumission : 5 mai 2026 (17h00) 

Durée : 5 ans maximum 

Budget : CHF 1 million maximum pour les fonds du projet (salaires du personnel et autres coûts). Le salaire du/de la requérant-e (pour la totalité ou une partie du projet ; barème professeurs assistants) peut être couvert par la bourse dans des situations spécifiques définies sur la page 10 du call document. 

Les candidat-e-s doivent remplir les trois conditions personnelles suivantes :

1. Fenêtre d’admission : ils/elles doivent avoir ≥ 2 ans d'expérience dans la recherche avec un pourcentage moyen de temps de travail ≥ 80 % et doivent soumettre leur requête au plus tard 8 ans après la date de leur soutenance de thèse. La date prise en compte pour le calcul est le 1er février 2026 et non le délai de soumission (exception due au report de l'appel (cf. p. 4 call document).

2. Stade de carrière : ils/elles ne doivent pas encore avoir obtenu un poste de chef de groupe ou de professeur d’université, avoir une promesse d’un tel poste, et ils/elles ne doivent pas encore avoir reçu des fonds de tiers importants pour un projet de recherche, p. ex. un Encouragement de projet FNS, un Starting, Consolidator, ou Advanced Grant de l'ERC ou du FNS, ou un financement provenant de toute autre source tierce (cf. p. 4 call document).

3. Swiss link : ils/elles doivent avoir un lien avec la Suisse : un poste de recherche pendant ≥ 2 ans, avec un taux d’activité moyen de 80% dans une institution de recherche suisse, ou la nationalité suisse, ou un diplôme d'un établissement d'enseignement supérieur suisse (master, doctorat, MD/FMH ou équivalent) (cf. p. 5 call document).

On 1 February 2026, the SNSF has launched the call for SNSF Starting Grants 2026, the highest level of SNSF career funding, meant to enable young researchers to carry out their own independent project and lead a research team in Switzerland. For the first time, applications for an SNSF StG will be submitted in full via the SNSF Portal and no longer via mySNF.

Here are some of the key features of the Call 2026:

Submission deadline: 5 May 2026 (17h00)

Duration: maximum of 5 years

Budget: maximum CHF 1 million for project funds (salaries of project staff and further costs). The applicant’s salary (either in full or for part of the project; tariff for assistant professors) can be covered by the grant in specific situations as defined on page 10 of the call document.

Applicants must fulfil all three personal requirements:

1. Eligibility Window: they have ≥ 2 years of research experience with an average work-time percentage of ≥ 80% and must submit their proposal no more than 8 years after the date of their PhD defence. The relevant date for the calculation is 1.2.2026 and not the submission deadline (exception due to the call postponement; cf. p. 4 call document).

2. Career Stage: they must not yet have obtained a group leader or university professor position, or have a binding agreement for such a position, and they must not have received significant third-party funding for a research project, e.g., a SNSF project grant, or a Starting, Consolidator, or Advanced Grant from the ERC or the SNSF, or funding from any other third-party source (cf. p. 4. call document).

3. Swiss link: they must have a link with Switzerland by the call deadline, i.e. they have held a research position for the equivalent of at least two years with an average work-time percentage of at least 80% (0.8 FTE) at a Swiss research institution in the higher education sector in Switzerland, or have Swiss nationality, or hold a degree from a Swiss higher education institution (Master’s, PhD, MD/FMH, or equivalent) (cf. p. 5 call document).
