My research topic is the assessment of the impact of shooting on the welfare of Trachemys scripta. The main objective of this master thesis project is to explore in depth a management method commonly used in Switzerland for Trachemys sp, namely shooting. We particularly focus on the assessment of animal welfare in the context of this method, often perceived as brutal. In a context where this approach is often neglected in academic research, the study aims to fill this gap by providing an in-depth analysis of the ethical and animal welfare implications associated with the use of shooting. The aim of the study is also to have a significant impact on current perspectives on the management of Trachemys populations. By highlighting the animal welfare aspects, but also on its effectiveness, our research could influence management decisions in other countries facing similar challenges such as Italy. For example, if we find that shooting is a practical and ethical method in some cases, this might encourage its use. But in other situations, it might raise ethical questions and call into question its usefulness.
