Ludovic Schorpp

Background/Biography

I am a postdoctoral researcher with a combined background in geology and hydrogeology. My research is mainly focused on the construction of numerical geological and hydrogeological models of the subsurface in order to better characterize its heterogeneity, which is a fundamental aspect when seeking to better understand hydrogeological processes such as groundwater flow dynamics, saltwater intrusion or contaminant transport.

During my PhD, I developed several stochastic modeling tools and methods (ArchPy, EROSim) to facilitate the generation of geological models and better quantify the uncertainty associated with these models. Following this experience of heterogeneity, I joined the DeltAs project, which aims to understand in greater detail the spatial distribution of arsenic (As) in groundwater in Vietnam. As part of this project, I will develop detailed geological models of the Mekong delta as input to a groundwater model, with the aim of predicting the evolution of hydrodynamics (groundwater flow lines) in this complex system and identifying links between geology, hydrogeology, human impact and arsenic.
