Sophia Simelitidou

Visiting Researcher

Sophia is a PhD researcher at the University of Exeter working under the supervision of Professor Nick Gill. She is (currently) a visiting researcher at the University of Neuchâtel. She holds an MSc in Social and Cultural Anthropology, an LLM in International Human Rights Law, and an MRes in Politics.

Her doctoral research examines uncategorical forms of displacement beyond the categories of migration and refugeeness. She approaches displacement as a regime of governance, exploring how it operates not simply as relocation but as a set of processes that hinder placemaking. Her interdisciplinary work draws primarily on human geography, anthropology, and queer theory to investigate how displacement functions in complex and often overlooked ways.
