Bachelor in Biology (2nd year), Spring semester
In this course, the foundations and applications of conservation biology will be presented in a synthetic manner. We will address the challenges of protecting biodiversity at the global level with a historical context and an openness to the future. We will explore the multiple facets of biodiversity, its indicators and its geographical distribution, and highlight hotspots for conservation. We will review the main causes of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation linked to human activities. Finally, we will study strategies for the conservation of species and ecosystems in natural and anthropized areas in the face of sustainable development challenges.
