Carolina Huercano

Carolina is from Spain. She completed her bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD at the University of Malaga (Spain). During her PhD, under the supervision of Noemi Ruiz-Lopez at the IHSM-La Mayora (a joint center between CSIC and the University of Malaga), she explored how membrane contact sites shape plant development. Her research focused on SMP proteins (lipid transporters) in plants, with a special emphasis on those located at ER–plastid contact sites. Since February 2026, she has been a postdoctoral researcher in the Legris lab, where she studies how temperature shapes shoot architecture using the model Arabidopsis thaliana. Outside the lab, she enjoys exploring new places through travel, playing board games with friends, binge-watching TV series, and reading.
