This year’s WES PhD School Conference will be held, for the first time, in Basel. We are looking very forward to see all continuing students again and also to meet those who have started their PhDs over the past year.

The goal of the one-day conference is to promote exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration among the PhD student members of the different institutions that participate in the PhD school, and to stimulate interactions of PhD students with senior researchers. This is a no-stress event with a friendly audience of your peers that gives an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow students and researchers. Snacks, lunch and a closing apéro are provided.

PhD students are asked to present their current work, or a part of it, either in a talk (15 minute slots for presentation and questions) or in poster form. We ask everyone in their 2nd year or later to kindly give a talk. Please design presentations and posters to be understandable to a general hydrological geosciences audience.

The annual conference is the marquee event in the WES PhD School calendar and thus, in principle, participation in the annual conference is mandatory for all PhD students registered in the PhD school. Please submit an abstract using the distributed template to the PhD school coordinator by the November 14th (23:59).

Abstracts must be maximum 200 words, written in English, and may contain one figure. When registering for the event and sending the abstract, please specify wether you will give a talk or present a poster.

Once we have received your abstracts, we will schedule the talks. You are welcome to present a practice version of an upcoming conference presentation (e.g., AGU2023 or EGU2024) or to present a talk adapted from a recent conference (e.g., SGM2023), but you should of course adapt your talk/poster to the audience (your fellow geoscience PhD students).

Supervisors and postdocs working with PhD student presenters are encouraged to attend as well. The registration link is the same as for the PhD students.

Participation and registration are free of charge and PhD School members can have their transportation costs reimbursed. Please don’t hesitate to contact us in case you have questions.
