Individual decision on antibiotic treatment. A case for utility assessment

Résumé

The objective of the current project is to define patients', health care professionals' and 'the society's' preferences for the acceptable risk of antibiotic resistance development for a given increase in mortality, morbidity and/or inconvenience. Patient's preferences can be assessed and expressed in quantitative terms known as utilities. Patients' utilities will enable to weight statistical probabilities for various outcomes according to patients' preferences for these outcomes.
