Since it first opened its doors, the UniNE has sought to provide excellent tuition. Its modest size gives it the dynamism and adaptability it needs to meet this objective.<\/p>\n

The UniNE\u2019s history: key dates and numbers<\/h2>\n

1838\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThe birth of the Academy of Neuch\u00e2tel, attributable to the eminent geologist and palaeontologist Louis Agassiz, as well as a strong political desire to give the region its own high-quality educational establishment.<\/p>\n

1909<\/strong>
\nWith a decree of the\u00a0Grand Conseil\u00a0<\/em>of Neuch\u00e2tel, the Academy of Neuch\u00e2tel was officially named the University of Neuch\u00e2tel on the 18th May. In 1910, it was expanded by the addition of a commercial sciences department, and all its faculties received the right to award doctorates<\/p>\n

1919<\/strong>
\nThe\u00a0F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des \u00e9tudiants neuch\u00e2telois<\/em>\u00a0(FEN) was constituted.<\/p>\n

1962<\/strong>
\nThe\u00a0number of students surpassed 500 for\u00a0the\u00a0first\u00a0time.<\/p>\n

2009<\/strong>
\nThe student body first numbered over 4000 members.<\/p>\n

2016<\/strong>
