In the past, I have been involved in various fields of water resources: water utilities engineer, hydrological and hydrogeological modeler, lecturer in water resources and researcher on the impact of plant protection products on water quality in drained fields in Switzerland. My research here will focus on the impact of river restoration on groundwater. The project, funded by the Federal Office for the Environment, aims at providing a methodology to better design and monitor river restoration with regards to stream / aquifer interactions.

River restoration measures on rivers can affect the adjacent groundwater systems including drinking water wells. The quantitative and especially qualitative effects of river restoration on groundwater are usually examined too late or not in enough detail. In this applied research project, we will investigate strategies and technical instructions for an improved consideration of groundwater as part of river restoration projects.
