There are no special entry requirements. The course is aimed at students whose proficiency level is around B1. If you are not sure of your level, you can check the evaluation forms on our page "Language courses"

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • give clear, systematically developed descriptions and presentations, with appropriate highlighting of significant points, and relevant supporting detail.
  • give clear, detailed descriptions on a wide range of subjects related to their field of interest.
  • explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • engage in extended conversation on most general topics in a clearly participatory fashion.

The course will mainly consist of discussions on different topics. Students will be required to participate actively in small group as well as class settings. Some vocabulary will be revised to help the discussion flow more easily.

Flexi-cours: the course takes place every week for 45 minutes. Students are required to do autonomous work at the Espace Multimédia d’Auto-apprentissage (E.M.A.) for 10 hours during the semester.

Each student will give a presentation on a topic related to their filed of interest. It will be assessed according to criteria of: clarity, content, language and pronunciation accuracy. Participation to small group and class discussions and debates will be assessed throughout the whole semester using a precise table distributed at the beginning of classes.

The course material is going to be distributed in class. Students are required to contribute CHF 5.- towards the cost of printing and photocopying.
