Alina Toader

Alina Toader is a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Transnational Studies and Social Processes at the University of Neuchâtel. She is currently working within the research project “Transnational Mobility of Academics in the Early Stages of their Careers: Transforming or Reproducing Gender Regimes?” funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Before coming to Neuchâtel, Alina Toader worked as a teaching assistant in demography at the University of Lille 1 and as a research assistant at the National Institute for Demographic Studies in Paris.

Her research interests have been on international migration and mobility, career trajectories, and gender (regimes). She has strong quantitative skills in survey data analysis, including event history and life course analysis, and also a good experience in qualitative methodologies.  For her PhD in Demography and Sociology, Alina Toader investigated with a gender perspective the influences of migrating to France on occupational histories. She analyzed in a comparative manner the occupational trajectories on the French labour market, and also by taking into consideration the experience before arrival in France and changes observed at some important moments of the migration process. This project benefited from a doctoral grant at the University of Paris Ouest. Before, she wrote two other theses, on social representations towards immigrants in a selection of French press, and on Romanian students in France.
