Ce cours retrace l'histoire de la constitution de la discipline, les auteurs déterminants et les principales écoles de pensées qui fondent l'ethnologie en tant que science. Il met en perspective les développements théoriques aux Etats-Unis, en Angleterre et en France. La problématisation des "grands récits" explicatifs, avec leur prétention à l'objectivité et à la neutralité, la réflexivité critique et les préoccupations éthiques de la recherche anthropologique seront aussi traitées dans les dernières séances.
