Fundamental and applied protistology

15 (all day) and 16 April (morning) 2014

Organizer: Prof. Edward Mitchell

This workshop will cover a broad range of current topics in protistology, from molecular phylogeny and taxonomy to morphology, biology and ecology of free-living protists in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

* Also contribute to the practical session on protists identification

The first part of the workshop will consist in keynote and contributed talks and poster sessions.

The invited speakers are about equally distributed between phylogeny/diversity and ecology and talks will cover a broad spectrum of topics in these disciplines.

The second part will be devoted to a practical session where participants will have an opportunity to use classical methods in protistology and learn about the taxonomy and identification of different groups.

It will start in the end of the afternoon session of April 15th time allowing and continue in the morning of April 16th.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own material (fixed or living, or illustrations) and discuss their fundamental and practical questions.
