A la fin des années 1980, avec comme principal objectif de fournir des éléments aidant à la gestion et à la conservation à long terme de ce patrimoine piscicole, un premier inventaire systématique à l'échelle du territoire suisse a été effectué. Les données récoltées ont conduit à l'élaboration d'une banque de données informatique. Sur la base de ces informations, un bilan initial a été effectué et a abouti à la réalisation de la Liste rouge des poissons et cyclostomes de Suisse (Kirchhofer A., Zaugg B. & Pedroli J.-C.,1990) ainsi qu'à la rédaction du premier Atlas de distribution des poissons et cyclostomes de Suisse (Pedroli J.-C., Zaugg B. & Kirchhofer A.,1991).
Actuellement, soit une dizaine d'années plus tard, ces données de base ont été réactualisées et complétées. Elles ont pour but de dresser un nouveau bilan de la situation ce qui permettra d'optimaliser les actions à mener en vue d'une meilleure conservation du patrimoine piscicole.
Le présent ouvrage présente et synthétise pour la Suisse les données récoltées de 1983 à 2002, il distingue et compare les inventaires «initiaux», ayant notamment servis de base à l'Atlas paru en 1991 avec ceux récoltés depuis. Une partie des textes relatifs aux différents taxons, en particuliers les aspects généraux traitants de la distribution générale et de la biologie, sont inspirés et partiellement repris du précédent Atlas (1991).
Volume contient pour chaque taxon une carte de distribution, un tableaux de synthèse et un commentaire sur la biologie et la situation actuelle en Suisse; une clé de détermination et un index des espèces.

Um fundierte Grundlagen für nachhaltige Bewirtschaftung und Schutz der einheimischen Fischfauna zu erhalten, wurde Ende der 80-er Jahre des letzten Jahrhunderts erstmals ein systematisches, gesamtschweizerisches Inventar aufgenommen. Die erhobenen Informationen wurden in einer Datenbank zusammengestellt. Mit diesen Grundlagen wurde eine erste Bilanz gezogen, was zur Roten Liste der Fische und Rundmäuler der Schweiz (Kirchhofer A., Zaugg B. & Pedroli J.-C.,1990) sowie zum Verbreitungsatlas der Fische und Rundmäuler der Schweiz (Pedroli J.-C., Zaugg B. & Kirchhofer A.,1991) geführt hat.
Nun, also rund zehn Jahre später, ist dieses Grundlagenmaterial aktualisiert und ergänzt worden. Dies mit dem Ziel, eine Bilanz der heutigen Situation zu ziehen und gleichzeitig die einheimische Fischfauna besser schützen zu können.
Im vorliegenden Dokument werden die zwischen 1983 und 2002 erhobenen Informationen präsentiert und interpretiert. Es wird unterschieden zwischen dem «ersten Inventar» (Basis von 1991) und dem «aktualisierten Inventar», welches zusätzlich auch die neu erhobenen Angaben beinhaltet. Gleichzeitig werden die beiden Inventare miteinander verglichen. Die bei den einzelnen Taxa dargestellten Texte, insbesondere bezüglich der allgemeinen Verbreitung und der Biologie, lehnen sich an den Atlas von 1991 an resp. wurden teilweise übernommen.
Dieser Band enthält für jede Art, eine Verbreitungskarte, eine graphische Synthese und einen Kommentar zur Biologie und heutigen Situation in der Schweiz; einen Bestimmungsschlüssel und einen Artenindex.

Alla fine degli anni '80, è stato allestito il primo inventario sistematico dei pesci su scala nazionale. L'obiettivo principale era di fornire gli elementi utili alla gestione e alla conservazione del patrimonio ittico a lungo termine. I dati raccolti hanno portato alla creazione di una banca dati informatizzata. Sulla base di queste informazioni è stato stilato un bilancio che ha in seguito portato alla realizzazione della Lista rossa "Liste rouge des poissons et cyclostomes de Suisse/ Rote Liste der Fischer und Rundmäuler der Schweiz" (Kirchhofer A., Zaugg B. & Pedroli J.-C.,1990) e alla pubblicazione del primo Atlante "Verbreitungsatlas der Fische und Rundmäuler der Schweiz - Atlas de distribution des poissons et cyclostomes de Suisse (Pedroli J.-C., Zaugg B. & Kirchhofer A.,1991). Oggi, una decina di anni più tardi, i dati sono stati attualizzati e completati con l'obiettivo di stilare un nuovo bilancio al fine di ottimizzare le azioni da intraprendere per una migliore conservazione del patrimonio ittico.
La presente opera illustra e sintetizza i dati raccolti in Svizzera dal 1983 al 2002 stilando un confronto tra l'inventario "iniziale" che fu base per l'elaborazione dell'Atlante apparso nel 1991 e i dati raccolti in seguito. Una parte dei testi relativa ai differenti taxa, nello specifico le parti sugli aspetti generali che riguardano la distribuzione e la biologia, sono ispirati e parzialmente ripresi dal precedente Atlante (1991). Il volume contiene per ogni taxon: una carta di distribuzione, una tabella riassuntiva e un testo sulla biologia e lo stato attuale di conservazione in Svizzera, inoltre è presente una chiave di determinazione e una lista delle specie.

At the end of 1980 a first systematic inventory of the Swiss fish fauna was made. It was ment to be a tool to manage and preserve the existing fish population. The gathered data was integrated in an electronic data base and the analysis of the data resulted in the publication of the « Red Data List of the cyclostoma and fishes of Switzerland» (Kirchhofer A., Zaugg B. & Pedroli J.-C.,1990) and the first distribution atlas of the cyclostoma and fishes of Switzerland "Verbreitungsatlas der Fische und Rundmäuler der Schweiz - Atlas de distribution des poissons et cyclostomes de Suisse (Pedroli J.-C., Zaugg B. & Kirchhofer A.,1991).
Ten years later, this information has been now revised and updated and should help optimize the protection mesures taken for the fish in Switzerland. This new publication presents and synthesizes the data collected from 1983 to 2002 and compares the inventory of 1991 with the new data.
The description of each species has been partly copied from the previous atlas (1991) and completed in view of the new findings.
The volume contains for each species a distribution map, a synthesis and a commentary on the biology and present situation in Switzerland. There is also a determination key and a species index.
