Cet ouvrage présente la distribution et l'écologie générale de toutes les espèces de Mollusques aquatiques et terrestres découvertes en Suisse, depuis le Quaternaire.
Depuis la parution du catalogue des Gastéropodes de la Suisse (Mermod 1930) aucune synthèse des connaissances malacologiques rassemblées dans ce pays a été publiée Cet atlas est donc un outil important pour ceux qui désirent étudier et protéger ces organismes et leurs habitats.
Les chapitres introductifs présentent un historique très détaillé des recherches effectuées en Suisse, offrent un aperçu des principales variables écologique qui influencent la distribution générale des espèces sur le territoire national et fournissent une liste systématique complète des espèces autochtones et récemment introduites. Le corps principal de l'ouvrage est axé sur l'autécologie (phénologie, répartition altitudinale, habitats préférentiels, ...) et la distribution des 277 espèces ou sous-espèces quaternaires et récentes observées en Suisse.
Ce volume de 527 pages, illustré de plus de 300 photographies noir/blanc (min. une par espèce) et de 14 planches couleurs, se termine par une bibliographie très détaillée, un index des noms vernaculaires allemand et français et par un lexique trilingue (allemand, français, italien).

Die Verbreitung und die allgemeine Ökologie aller seit dem Quaternär in der Schweiz nachgewiesenen Molluskenarten (Wasser- und Land-mollusken) werden in diesem Werk aufgezeichnet.
Seit der Veröffentlichung von Mermod (1930) ist keine zusammenfassende Arbeit mehr über die malakologischen Kenntnisse in der Schweiz erschienen. Dieser Verbreitungsatlas enthält reichhaltige Informationen für alle die mehr über diese Tiere und ihre Habitate wissen und zu deren Schutz beitragen wollen.
Die Einführungskapitel sind folgendermassen gestaltet: ein ausführlicher historischer Überblick der malakologischen Forschung in der Schweiz; eine Zusammenstellung der wichtigsten ökologischen Parameter im Hinblick auf die Verbreitung der Arten in der Schweiz; eine vollständige systematische Liste autochtoner und neuzeitlich eingeschleppter Arten. Der Hauptteil der Arbeit ist der Autökologie (Phänologie, Höhenverbreitung; Habitatspräferenz, ....) und der Verbreitung der 277 quaternären und heutigen Arten und Unterarten gewidmet.
Zusätzlich bereichern mehr als 300 schwarz/weiss Fotografien (mindestens eine pro Art) und 12 Farbtafeln dieses Kapitel. Ein ausführliches Literaturverzeichnis, ein Index der deutschen und französischen Artnamen und ein dreisprachiges Lexikon (deutsch/ französisch/italienisch) bilden einen weiteren Teil dieses mehr als 500 Seiten langen Bandes.

Questa opera presenta la distribuzione e l'ecologia generale di tutte le specie di Molluschi aquatici e terrestri scoperte in Svizzera dal Quaternario.
Da la pubblicazione del catalogo dei Gasteropodi della Svizzera (Mermod 1930) nessuna sintesi delle conoscenze malacologiche raccolte in questo paese e stata pubblicata. Questo atlante e dunque un instrumento importante per quelli che desiderano studiare e proteggere questi organismi e i loro habitati.
I capitoli introduttivi presentano un storico molto detagliato delle ricerche effetuate in Svizzera, offrono un sguardo delle principali modificazioni ecologiche che influenzano la distribuzione generale delle specie sul territorio nazionale e forniscono una lista sistematica completa delle specie autoctone e recemente introdotte. Il corpo principale di questo libbro e assata sull'autecologia (fenologia, ripartizione altitudinale, habitati preferenziali, ...) e la distribuzione di 277 specie o sotto specie quaternarie e recenti osservate in Svizzera.

The distribution and general ecology of all molluscs found in Switzerland since the Quaternary are treated in this volume.
Since the publication of "Gasteropoda of Switzerland" (Mermod 1930) no summarizing work on the state of malacologic knowledge in Switzerland has been published. This atlas of distribution contains a wealth of information for anybody who wants to know these animals and their habitat better and who wants to contribute to their protection.
The first chapters offer an in-depth historical survey of the malacologic research in Switzerland, a compilation of the main ecologic variables influencing the general distribution of the species in Switzerland and a complete systematic list of the native and recently introduced species. The description of the ecology and distribution of 277 species, enriched by distribution maps, b-w photographies and 12 colour plates, form the main part of this book. An extensive bibliography, a species index (latin, german, french) and a tri-lingual glossary conclude this volume.
