La première checklist des Diptères de Suisse, réalisée grâce à la participation de plus de 50 spécialistes européens, établit la présence de 6088 espèces dans notre pays, dont de nombreuses sont signalées pour la première fois.
Chacune des 106 familles représentées est traitée séparément avec ses propres références bibliographiques mentionnant, en plus des travaux faunistiques importants, les clés de détermination utilisables pour l'identification de la faune suisse.
Pour qu'une espèce soit citée, un spécimen au moins provenant de Suisse devait avoir été vu ou une référence bibliographique fiable relative à cette même espèce devait avoir été reconnue par les auteurs. D'un point de vue faunistique, environ 10% des familles sont considérées comme très bien étudiées, 46% bien, 20% moyennement et 24% mal ou très mal étudiées. Ces chiffres soulignent la connaissance encore fragmentaire de ce grand ordre d'Insectes dans notre pays d'autant que la comparaison avec la faune des pays voisins laisse supposer que 7000 à 8000 espèces devraient exister en Suisse. Quelques changements taxonomiques sont publiés pour la première fois dans les familles des Limoniidae, des Scatopsidae et des Heleomyzidae.
Ce volume de 369 pages, comprend des chapitres introductifs en allemand, français, italien et anglais et est illustré de 5 dessins. Il contient également 3 tableaux, et se termine par un index des familles, genres, espèces, et synonymes.

Es wird die erste vollständige Checklist der Diptera der Schweiz präsentiert. Über 50 europäische Spezialisten haben sich am Projekt beteiligt. In der Schweiz wurden 106 Familien mit 6088 Arten von Dipteren nachgewiesen. Zahlreiche Arten sind Neufunde. Jede Familie wird als separate Einheit mit eigenem Literaturverzeichnis behandelt, in welchem neben faunistisch-taxonomischen Arbeiten auch für die Schweiz benutzbare Bestimmungsschlüssel aufgeführt werden.Einführende Kapitel auf deutsch, französisch, italienisch und englisch.
Zur Aufnahme einer Art haben die Autoren entweder mindestens ein aus der Schweiz stammendes Tier untersucht oder einen glaubwürdigen Literaturhinweis aufgenommen. Als wichtigstes Resultat kann erwähnt werden, dass 10% der Familien faunistisch sehr gut, 46% gut, 20% mittel und 24% schlecht bzw. sehr schlecht untersucht sind. Damit wird eindrücklich der noch sehr lückenhafte Kenntnisstand dieser grossen Insektenordnung in der Schweiz aufgezeigt. Ein Vergleich mit umliegenden Ländern lässt vermuten, dass 7000-8000 Arten vorkommen dürften. In folgenden Familien werden taxonomische Änderungen hier zum ersten Mal publiziert: Limoniidae, Scatopsidae und Heleomyzidae.
Dieser 369-seitige Band enthält einführende Kapitel in 4 Sprachen (deutsch, französisch, italienisch, englisch), 5 Strichzeichnungen und 3 Tafeln. Ein Index der Familien, Gattungen, Arten und Synonyme vervollständigt dieses Werk.
La prima checklist dei Dipteri della Svizzera, realizata grazie alla partecipazione di pui di 50 specialisti europei, stabilisce la prezenza di 6088 specie nel nostro paese, nelle quali numerose sono segnalate per la prima volta.
Ognuna delle 106 famiglie rispresentate e discussa separatamente con le proprie referenze bibliografiche che riferiscono, in più dei lavori faunistici importanti, le chiavi di determinazioni utile per l'identificazione della fauna svizzera.
Per che una specie sia citata, al meno un esemplare proveniente della Svizzera deve essere stato visto o una referenza bibliografica affidabile relativa a questa stessa specie deve essere riconosciuta da gli autori. Di un punto di vista faunistico, circa 10% delle famiglie sono considerate come molto bene studiate, 46% bene, 20% discretamente e 24% male o molto male studiate. Queste cifra sottolineano la conoscenza encora frammentaria di questo grande ordine d'insetti nel nostro paese visto che il paragone con la fauna dei paesi vicini sottopone che 7000 a 8000 specie dovrebbero esistere in Svizzera. Qualche cambiamenti tassonomici sono pubblicati per la prima volta nelle famiglie dei Limoniidae, dei Scatopsidae e dei Heleomyzidae.

This is the first complete Checklist of the Diptera of Switzerland ever to be published. It has been a collaborative project in which over 50 european specialists have taken part. 106 families and 6088 species are now known to occur in Switzerland. Many species are new records for this country. Each family is treated as a separate chapter, with its own bibliography in which key works useful for the identification of Swiss species are listed as well as the faunistic-taxonomic literature.
For a species to be included in the list, the authors must either have examined at least one specimen of Swiss provenance or have accepted a reliable record from literature. The most important result of this compilation has been to show that 10% of the families are faunistically very well investigated, 46% well investigated, 20% moderately so, and 24% poorly to very poorly so. This impressively demonstrates the very incomplete state of knowledge of this large order of insects in Switzerland. A comparison with adjacent countries suggests that 7000-8000 species should actually occur here. Some taxonomic changes are published here for the first time in the families Limoniidae, Scatopsidae and Heleomyzidae.
