List of common names
In answer to numerous requests, we offer you a Excel-file with the latin, german and french names of nearly 2000 species among the most frequent in Switzerland.

(Note : this list is not complete, version February 2003)

List of common names

Do not hesitate to download the systematic files proposed on this page. They contain the species observed or potentially present in Switzerland or present in adjoining country with the following information :

- scientific names
- vernacular names (in several languages)
- protection status in Switzerland (official red data list) if known

The nomenclature used is based on acknowledged reference work which is widely used on a national level (p.e. Fauna Helvetiva, Diptera Checklist, 1998) or on a european level (p.e. Freude, Harde & Lohse for Coleoptera; The Lepidoptera of Europe, 1996). This choice is arbitrary, but has the advantage of being clear.
